For centuries we’ve referred to our pets as “man’s best friend” when, in reality, they’re so much more than that! The animals that we welcome into our homes are family, and we’ll do anything to ensure they have a safe and loving place to call home. In believing every animal deserves the same, Pura Vida has teamed up with the Best Friends Animal Society to collaborate on our latest charity collection.
The Pet Rescue Collection features more than a dozen paw-some new pieces designed with pet lovers in mind. Whether you’re a cat mom looking for subtle symbolism, or a proud pup parent looking to spell it out with a bracelet, you’ll find the perfect piece that shows your heart within this collection. The best part? For each piece sold from the Pet Rescue Collection, 5% of the purchase price (with a minimum donation of $10,000) will be shared with the Best Friends Animal Society® to support their work to end the killing of dogs and cats in America's shelters by 2025. ❤️
Shopping this collab is just one of the many simple actions you can take to support animals in need. Keep reading to learn about even more helping hands you can lend to our furry friends. 🐶
Adopt a Shelter Pet
This one is probably the most obvious, but the impact you can have on an animal’s life through adoption can’t be overstated. If you’re considering welcoming a new, four-legged member of your family, consider visiting your local shelter and getting to know the precious pets-to-be who deserve a safe place to call home.
Foster a Friend
Animal lovers often face a dilemma where they see a pet in need but know, deep down, they don’t have the flexibility, the space, or the means to create the environment a rescue would need. This is where you can find a fit through fostering!
Rescues are *always* in need of foster homes for their animals due to overcrowding and stretched resources. If you can make a short-term commitment to a friend in need while they wait on their permanent home, you can make a tangible and substantial difference in their lives.
Volunteer Your Time
If you have the time to lend a helping hand, but may not have a living situation that allows for adoption or fostering, you can help so many animals at a time when you locally volunteer. There’s a strong chance that a shelter nearby has an existing volunteer program you can participate in and help with kennel cleaning, making calls, mailing applications, or taking the dogs out for a special day!
Support Through Donation
Not every animal lover has the time to spare to volunteer, foster, or adopt. If you can relate, shelters are always seeking donations from the kind hearts in their communities. Monetary contributions are, of course, always needed, but many shelters have active wishlists you can contribute to or will generally accept:
- Leashes/Collars
- Toys
- Brushes
- Beds
- Food
- Dishes
- Cleaning Supplies
- Towels
- Newspaper
- & more!
It can be overwhelming to hear some of the statistics surrounding pets in our nation’s shelters and learn how many deserving animals are in need. We hope this list helps you find small ways you can make a big difference in the lives of animals and shelter workers in your area and beyond.
