Homemade Hummus

The perfect homemade hummus recipe for you to try is now here. You really can make delicious hummus at home, that tastes even better than store bought! For this recipe we used an ingredient call tahini. You can buy it at your local health food store. Tahini is made from ground sesame seeds, and is added to hummus dips for extra flavor. This is optional to your homemade hummus, but we think it's what makes this hummus recipe so full of flavor! We can't wait for you to make your own hummus dip at home! This recipe makes about 1 1/2 cups of hummus for you to enjoy! img_3632What you will need: -Chickpeas (1 15 oz. can or 1 1/2 cup cooks chickpeas (15 oz.) -Well stirred Tahini (1/4 cup) -Lemon juice (1/4 cup) -Garlic clove (1 small clove, minced) -Extra virgin olive oil (2 tablespoons) -Ground cumin (1/2 teaspoon) -1/2 teaspoon garlic salt (optional for more garlic flavor) -Water (2-3 tablespoons) -Salt to taste -Food processor or blender img_3614Step 1) Risen chickpeas if using from a can img_3613Step 2) Add Tahini to the bottom of your food processor and process about 20 seconds or more. img_3621Step 3) Add lemon juice in with the Tahini and blend another 20 seconds until creamy. img_3625Step 4) Add olive oil, ground cumin, garlic and remaining ingredients to the processor. Process another 30 seconds and scrape sides. img_3630Step 5) Add chickpeas slowly to the food processor. Start by adding half, process for about 1 minute, then add the remaining. Slowly add 2-3 tablespoons of water to get desired consistency. Process until think and smooth. About 1-2 minutes. img_3631Step 6) To serve hummus: Add salt to taste. Drizzle more olive oil over top, and any additional seasoning. Optional: Make your own pita chips! Buy pita bread, cut into squares, drizzle olive oil and salt on top. Bake on a baking sheet at 375 for 15 minutes. img_3644
